Corporate wellness is how we take a group of people and work in a cooperative manner towards the common goal of bettering our health.
No matter who we are, employee or employer, there is much to be gained, both quantitatively and qualitatively, from improving our overall health. Many of us probably know this but I’ll say it anyway. Being healthy makes us feel happier. Who doesn’t want to be happier???
To a great extent, how we feel is the sum of all the choices we make day-to-day. Do I take the elevator or the stairs? Do I make my own lunch, or order out? Do I wake up early and train with Ben or do I sleep in. All of these decisions factor in to your body’s levels of various hormones, neurotransmitters, etc. which determine how we feel.
More often than not, it’s the things we choose NOT to do that have the greatest effect on our feelings of well-being. NOT eating the cupcakes our friend brought in, NOT having a second glass of wine, NOT ordering soda with takeout are just a few examples of behaviors that simply NOT doing can drastically improve your mood with consistent practice.
Best of all, NOT doing stuff is free!
The value gained with having and participating in a corporate wellness program is that you have someone to guide you towards the goals of feeling better. As a Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, and Strength and Conditioning Coach, I have many tools at my disposal to aid you in your journey to improving and maintaining your health. As you’ve seen, NOT all of the tools involve exercise 😉
